About Us

Based in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Bob (with a healthy dose of support from his wife Meg) began teaching himself how to do repairs and home renovations around 2001.

By 2005, and after reading many books, watching countless tutorials, and hours spent learning from others, they had developed enough skills to improve and re-sell (aka “flip”) their starter home for enough profit to purchase a 100+ year old farmhouse complete with a “charming” 1902 barn on the property…

We’ll call these the DIY years. The barn, house, and property in general were literally falling apart and would need a decade of projects, ranging from lifting and straightening the barn and installing a full-yard drainage system, through kitchen / bath / living room remodels and basketball court installation.

Bob and Meg did the majority of the work themselves with occasional help from other contractors and friends/family. The crowning achievement of these efforts was the “barn saving”, which is now where all our RER BarnWorks creations occur.

During the DIY years, Bob also had the good fortune to attend a training program under the tutelage of Master Woodworker Jeffry Lohr. Learning proper safety techniques, getting an introduction to critical foundations of woodworking, and being truly inspired by such an accomplished professional proved to jump start our learning curve and desire to create.

Little by little, people took notice that our designs worked well and looked nice… soon enough, informal orders rolled in until it reached a point where we couldn’t ignore it. That’s when we took steps to start RER BarnWorks.

Currently, Bob’s interest is in creating practical designs that suit a real need and can stand up to typical family demands.  We understand that kids, dogs, and life can be tough on a household, and that store-bought items may not fit the need (or even be the right size to fit the space!), so our goal is to solve for those things.

Ways we can work with you:

  • In stock items - When Bob has down time, he’ll often produce designs he has been thinking about – these will be marked as “in stock, available to purchase” in our gallery.

  • Custom needs – We often find that clients already have their own good ideas that they’d like to discuss. Great!  Please also view our gallery of projects to help build your ideas. Then get in touch and we’ll chat.

  • Advice - Lastly, based on years dealing with every possible home renovation issue you can imagine, plus a past career in construction sales and project management, we offer “renovation consulting” services designed to help you make sense of your home improvement projects before you’ve gone too far down the path of hiring general contractors, architects, etc.
